At Exotic Vet Care, we can discuss your pet’s end-of-life care treatment options and help you make the best decision on behalf of your pet. Sometimes, humane euthanasia is the kindest option for preventing an animal’s suffering. We will do everything we can to make your companion’s passing as easy as possible.
What to Expect with Pet Euthanasia
We make euthanasia as painless and stress-free as possible for your pet. We start by administering a sedative and/or analgesic so your pet can transition peacefully from consciousness to unconsciousness, similar to falling into a deep sleep.
Once your pet is fully asleep, we administer another anesthetic that gently slows and stops the heart. Each scenario is individually tailored to your pet’s needs. Reptiles and amphibians may be kept warm or placed in an incubator while anesthesia takes effect.
Pet Euthanasia Options
Standard euthanasia allows owners who wish to be present to remain with their pet through sedation before the final medication is administered. Medical euthanasia is available for owners who do not wish to be present, with a team member attending the pet throughout the procedure.
Aftercare Options for Your Pet
Aftercare options include home burial, medical cremation for eligible small pets when ashes are not returned, country cremation, and individual cremation with ashes returned. Exotic Vet Care can coordinate with local crematories and owners may request a preferred local provider.
