Bringing your exotic pet to the veterinarian can seem scary at first, but we strive to make every visit a pleasant and informative one. For those of you who may not have visited our facility, we provide this information to help put you at ease about your upcoming appointment.
Whether you book your appointment online, via our app (Android or iOS), or by calling our Client Services Coordinators, you will arrive at your appointed time with your pet in a secure carrier or harness for your scheduled consultation. No food, water, or treats should be in the carrier, and you will have been provided appropriate fasting instructions for your pet the night before in case of sedation or bloodwork. Our doctor and staff will have already reviewed the diet, housing, and history information you submitted prior to the visit via our Patient Pre-Visit Information Form to learn about your pet and the care you provide at home. Our Client Services Coordinators will greet you and your pet and ask you to make yourself comfortable in our welcome area while they inform the Veterinary Technician of your arrival.
Our Veterinary Technician will have prepared the exam room for your pet and will ask you for any additional information or updates needed prior to taking your pet into the exam room where our doctor will perform a thorough external physical examination of your pet, including checking the eyes, ears, mouth, nostrils, and vent (anus) as well as evaluating overall body condition. After this assessment, the Veterinary Technician will call you into the exam room to discuss the initial findings, recommended diagnostics, and course of action. You will then return to the welcome area while the doctor and staff perform any diagnostics, procedures, or treatments.
As we have a comprehensive in-house lab, we are most often able to provide on-site diagnostics with immediate results. After diagnostics and any necessary treatments are complete, our Veterinary Technician will bring you into the exam room to review the diagnostic findings and discuss anything that may be necessary to address issues of concern and to provide for your pet’s long-term care. The doctor and Veterinary Technician will answer any questions you may have and ensure that you are instructed on any home care you will need to provide for your pet.
You will be asked to wait in the welcome area while any medications to go home are prepared, and our Client Services Coordinator will let you know when the doctor has completed your invoice and process your payment at the front desk. If a medical progress exam is needed, you will be invited to schedule it at that time. A detailed summary of your pet’s examination including any care instructions will be emailed to you for your reference following your visit.
Our care does not end when you walk out the door. Should you suddenly remember a question you forgot to ask, have a concern about your pet’s progress, encounter difficulty with the prescribed treatments, or should any other needs arise, reach out via our app or by phone. Our Client Service Coordinators are knowledgeable and can assist you in many cases, and will have a Veterinary Technician or doctor return your call if the query is beyond their ability to answer.
We hope that this information helps you enjoy a stress-free and comfortable visit with us!
